One friend of mine sent a couple of scanned copies of local newspapers. I want to share these weird accidents involving mobile phones. Comments will be highly appreciated.
A bit of history of mobile phone in Nepal: First GSM Mobile service was launched in Nepal in 1999. Since then there have been many mobile subscribers to the service. Another service provider, Mero Mobile, started its service in 2005. However, they haven’t been able to provide the service as per demand.

Sue Turton loved her backside pinch?
On 23rd July, during a live broadcast on Channel 4 News, Sue Turton got her backside pinched by a local. The correspondent was reporting on the floods in Oxford when a man approached her from behind.
Police are pressing to punish the culprit but Turton has no desire to punish him.

Most of Indian women are housewives and their favourite pass-time is viewing TV. With never ending addictive TV serials many are accoused of skipping their daily routines to watch TV.

Seikh community ban expensive weddings
Sikh leaders in New Delhi, India, have called for a ban on expensive weddings. Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee believes it to promote equality.
“Our fight is against the exploitation by those who pose demands on the girl’s family to organize elaborate weddings,” the Times of India quotes one leader as saying.
The Committee has instructed its clergy not to hand over wedding certificates to couples who throw over-the-top bashes.The ban on demanding a dowry is widely ignored in India, as is the ban on checking the sex of an unborn child with an ultrasound scan, particularly among wealthier Indians.
Around 10 million female foetuses have been aborted in the last 20 years, according to a study published in the medical journal the Lancet last year. The gender ratio is often more skewed in wealthier areas. (source)
The Sikhs’ home state of Punjab has 793 females per 1,000 males, the lowest in the country as many female foetuses are aborted following ultrasound tests proscribed by law for several years. India’s national average, according to the 2001 census, stood at 933 females for every 1,000 males.

Thives stole car with her baby inside: she is facing charges
Whitlene Loussaint returned from attending church in the pouring rain and left her 2-month-old son in the back of her idling car while she went inside to fetch an umbrella. When she came back, the car was gone with the kid!

Generous ATM: gave $20 instead of $5 bills
An ATM at a northwest Louisiana truck stop was handing out $20 bills instead of $5 bills amounting to total of $7,000 extra amount been given out. The authorities have solved the problem and know who used it and plan to pursue the money back.DeSoto Parish sheriff’s Lt. Toni Morris said the automated teller machine has records identifying the 26 people who received the extra cash during five days in late June and early July.
Annette Parker, a supervisor at Eagle’s Truck Stop, said she unplugged the machine after overhearing conversations about the excess payments.
“The next morning when we had come back in, someone had plugged it back up,” she said. (source)
I wonder if they have camera to prove that those who used the machines indeed got $20 bills instead of $5.
Would keep the money or hand it over to the bank like a good boy, if you were in that situation? Does it make sense to charge back the money for the reason the machine screwed up? Please comment.

A ketchup packet that can fit you in: will it be as popular as the Catsup Bottle
First came the world largest ketchup bottle and then a largest ketchup packet. The gaint World’s Largest Catsup Bottle sits proudly next to Route 159, just south of downtown Collinsville, Illinois.It was built in 1949 by Caldwell Tanks of Louisville, Kentucky. The Catsup Bottle Preservation Group began fundraising efforts in 1993. The restoration was completed in June of 1995. In August of 2002 the Brooks Catsup Bottle Water Tower was named to the National Register of Historic Places. (source)
And now the southern Illinois community is after the record for the world’s largest ketchup packet.
Collinsville has partnered with the H.J. Heinz Co. to fill an 8-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide plastic pouch with 1,500 pounds of the tomato goop for a school fundraiser.
The company donated 4,000 glass bottles of the condiment for people to buy for $1 and pour into the packet. Proceeds will go to the Collinsville Christian Academy, which was damaged by a fire this week.
The giant packet will be sealed and kept in Collinsville, once home to a ketchup factory, for a few days before being taken to the Pittsburgh-based company’s headquarters. News source cnn

No glamour to Nicole Richie In Jail
During Nicole Richie’s four days in jail she will not be able to enjoy her glamorous lifestyle. No miniskirts, no stiletto heels and no time off for good behavior are some of the restrictions imposed on her.The news emerged after she was sentenced to nearly 4 days in prison for her wrong-way freeway trek in a Mercedes-Benz. Richie was sentenced Friday of nearly four days in jail, a fine of $2,048 and orders to attend drug and alcohol rehab.
“She’s not gonna be coming in here wearing a miniskirt and pumps,” Burbank police Sgt. Thor Merich said, describing a spartan lifestyle that would await her if she goes to that city’s jail.
“We pretty much go the bare minimum,” he said.
Prosecutors said Richie will serve the time in a city jail rather than a county lockup. She has the choice of any local jail in Los Angeles County that will accept her.
Richie was arrested on Dec. 11 after witnesses reported seeing her black Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle headed the wrong way on a freeway in Burbank. The California Highway Patrol said they found her parked in the car pool lane.
Richie told authorities she had smoked marijuana and taken the prescription painkiller Vicodin, a CHP officer said at the time. No drugs were found on her or in the car. News: Source

Japan: Sex Goes High-Tech with gPod
Japanese people are world renowned for their love of technology and now they are making cutting-edge sex toys. Japanese sex goods company Joymind produced “gPod”, a triple-motor vibrator which connects to music players or mobile phones and has sensors with high, medium and low music.
The 25,000-yen (200-dollar) gPod was one of a number of toys that went on public view Friday at Japan’s first-ever sex toy expo in suburban Tokyo.
“You can use it in many ways, for example hooking it up to your mobile phone,” said Ichiro Kameda, the machine’s inventor.
“The dildo vibrates through the same waves as a voice. So one of the ideas is that you can use it here in Tokyo when your boyfriend in New York is talking to you on the phone.”

The price tag for a handwoven dress weighing 1.1 kilograms (2.4 pounds) is as good as gold at 30 million yen (245,000 dollars), store Ginza Tanaka said.
The swimsuit, which has an open back and plunging neckline, weighs 500 grams and is on sale for 10 million yen (81,700 dollars), it added.For the more discreet, a tapestry is also available to decorate the living room for 50 million yen (408,000 dollars).

Volunteers wanted to take their clothes off and model on Swiss glacier
Yes, if you are interested to pose for the photo you can contact Greenpeace and start your journey right away. But it sure is not an easy job to pose on a freezing cold Alpine glacier.
Environmental group Greenpeace said that New York artist Spencer Tunick, famous for taking pictures of thousands of naked people in public settings worldwide, is taking a photo shoot to highlight the effects of climate change on Switzerland’s shrinking glaciers.
Greenpeace said if global warming continues at its current pace, most Swiss glaciers will disappear by 2080.
The photo shoot, which follows Tunick’s previous shoots in London, Mexico City and Amsterdam, will take place in August at an undisclosed location in Switzerland.Prospective candidates from further afield will have to start making travel arrangements now. “We aim to make this a climate friendly event, so please come by public transport and don’t fly,” Greenpeace said.
