A thief, Sheikh Mohsin, 35, grabbed a necklace from a local lady, Kiran Bahari, a resident of Lower Rawdon Street in central Kolkata and swallowed it. The local people caught him and handed over to the police. He was denying that he swallowed it so police had to conduct X-ray to see it in his stomach.

Doctors suggested the police to feed him with banana as it works as a natural purgative. 40 bananas in a few hours, 3 visits to lavatory and still the police could not get the necklace back.

“Mohsin was initially reluctant to eat the bananas, but we told him that doctors would cut him open to recover the chain. He immediately wolfed down the bananas at one go,” said Ajoy Kumar, the deputy commissioner of police (detective department).
