Don’t know how they build birdges in Asia these days. Last time it was in China a bridge collapsed before it was completed and now, in a latest news, a recently-built road bridge in Karachi, Pakistan has collapsed killing at least four people.

The collapsed bridge is Shershah Northern-By-Pass bridge connecting to Hub River caved in at Paracha Chowk of Karachi.

Karachi’s mayor said that the bridge was built by the state-run National Highway Authority and was officially opened by President Pervez Musharraf last month. (BBC)

According to Paktrubune Online 20-25 persons are still trapped under the debris and care calling through their cell phones for help.

Another online newspaper Khaleej Times quoted a local resident as saying “It created such a huge sound that we thought it was an earthquake,”

Senior police official Falak Khurshid said four bodies had been retrieved and he saw two more — of a man and a child — trapped in the mangled mass of concrete.
