Can you read a map ?

in: news, weird

mapsReading maps doesn’t require any special skills and most of the maps are made simple so that people can get idea of direction and location. But it seems maps should be made even simpler for people to understand them correctly.

According to a survey released today as many as 11 million British motorists are unable to read a basic road map. It was found that three fourth (75 percent) of the British drivers were unable to identify the motorway map symbol.

If they were to take a Cub Scout Map Reader badge test only one percent will be able to pass.

It was also found that sixteen percent of British drivers have become so heavily reliant on satellite navigation systems that they have given up keeping a map in their car.

The survey was based on a poll of 1,000 UK drivers. An estimated 36 billion wasted miles is being driven each year resulting from poor map-reading skills and that too in Britain alone. (source: reuters)

Another study report released at the beginning of the year revealed that two third (60 per cent) of British motorists believing that they are perfectly safe to drink and drive.

Well, I wish every countries do such research and act accordingly!
