  • Sudarshan Gautam – Disabled climber to drive across Canada


    sun-featured Have you ever heard of Sudarshan Gautam? If you haven’t, you would better be prepared to be surprised !

    Sudarshan is a Nepali guy in his late twenties, planning to climb Mount Everest in 2012. But, this guy doesn’t have hands to hold the rope on those slippery slopes.

    That is not all, he also drives car with his feet, does all of his everyday chores without support, and his is hot in Canadian medias these days. Sudarshan is doing fund raising for the Everest summit and other social works he want to do for Nepal.

    Sudarshan is all set to drive across Canada with his feet next year, for his fund raising effort.

  • 1 man, 1000 stone sculptures, gift to the motherland


    Manjul Miteri is a sculptor from Morang in Eastern Nepal. He is carves stone sculptures of famous persons from all around the world. He has been carving the collection for the last five years.

    He has a plan to build 1000 of the stone sculptures each measuring 18"x15"  in 10 years and hand them over to the Nepal government as a gift.

  • Charles Sobhraj sentenced to life – Nihita smells foul

    nihita-biswasThe Supreme Court (SC) on Friday upheld Patan Appellate Court’s decision to convict French national Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj on the charge of murders. Sobhraj has also been convicted for possessing fake passport.

    Nihita Biswas, the wife of the ‘Bikini Killer’, Charles Sobhraj, has again tried to get a wide media coverage by accusing the Supreme Court judges for corruption on the final decision to convict Sobhraj for life. Sobhraj’s lawyer and mother-in-law, Shakuntala Thapa, argued that her client was denied justice and treated unfairly.

    The 66-yr old Frenchman was sent to jail after being arrested in 2003 in the charge of murdering two foreign nationals in 1975. The Kathmandu District Court convicted him of murder in 2004 when he was found guilty of killing a US national, Connie Jo Bronzich and a Canadian Armond Carriere in 1975.

  • Forget iPad, Cheapest tablet computer to cost $35 in India


    In 2011 Indian government expects to produce a touchscreen tablet costing $35.
    The Linux based computer can do word processing, web browsing and video-conferencing.

    It can also be made more environment friendly by installing a solar power option at an additional cost.

    While unveiling the device on July 22, India’s Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said, “This is our answer to MIT’s $100 computer.” Sibal hopes to get the cost down to $10 eventually.

    Atithi Gautam KC recently did a live performance, singing three songs from her recently released album named ‘Atithi’. What is more interesting is that, Atithi is a 3 year-old-toddler, who is seeking to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest singer in the world.
    In the following video, Atithi KC is singing Nepali National Anthem, “Saayau Thunga Ful ka Hami…” live in her music album release ceremony.

  • Will Atithi KC dethrone Cleopatra Stratan as the youngest singer in the world?


    UPDATE: According to Amazon, the original Release Date of Cleopatra’s album was: August 20, 2006. That makes, Cleopatra’s age at that time was 3 years, 10 months, and 14 days. My email, asking the exact date of birth of Atithi is still unanswered. But,  if the age of Atithi is 3 years and 8 months, as told, she would surely be the youngest singer in the world.

    Atithi KC, who released a solo album of nine songs, at the age of 3 years and 8 months, has a potential to be the World’s youngest singer.

    Current record holder Cleopatra Stratan had also released an album in 2006 at the age of 3. As, it is not clear on the date of the album release we can’t say if Atithi has beaten her or not.

    She holds the record for being the youngest artist that performed live for two hours in front of a large audience, the highest paid young artist, the youngest artist to receive an MTV award and the youngest artist to score a #1 hit in a country (“Ghita” in Romanian Singles Chart).

  • 3-year-old singer released an album in Nepal


    atithi_kc A three year old child, Atithi KC, has released an album titled ‘Atithi’ in a program organized in Kathmandu. The album was released by the hand of the top musician of Nepal, Ambar Gurung.

    In the program organized by Arbit Publication, Ambar Gurung told that he was impressed by the songs of the little girl. Atithi’s father and the owner of Arbit Publication, told that it is the first time such a small child has released an album in the world. He is planning to apply for a Guinness World Record.

  • New currency symbol for Indian rupee


    indian rs Indian Rupee has got its own symbol. Similar to Dollar ($), Pound Sterling (£) and Japanese Yen (¥), and Euro (€), Indian Rupees has got a symbol. The new symbol is designed to look like a Hindi alphabet ‘RA’ (र) and part of a English alphabet ‘R’. Indian currency has become the fifth currency to have its own graphical symbol.

    The new symbol is also meant to differentiate the Indian Rupee from the rupee of Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Rupiah of Indonesia.

    The symbol was designed by D Udaya Kumar, a graduate from IIT Bombay. The design got selected from 3,000 designs entered for the competition announced by the RBI. Udaya Kumar is awarded Rs. 2.5 lakh as a prize money.

    It is planned that the symbol will be adopted in India within six months and all over the world within a year. The symbol however won’t be printed in the currency notes.

  • Democracy Video – Congratulation Anup Poudel


    A worldwide video challenge organized by the US government is won by a Nepali youth, Anup Poudel of Kabhrepalanchowk.

    anup-poudel Anup’s video “Democracy is Black” was selected the winner among 2,200 participants from 89 countries around the world. The 1minutes 30 second video explains the meaning of democracy.

    Anup has defined democracy by using four colors to represent unity, freedom, peace and love. When the four colors are mixed together the resulting color, black, is what Anup thinks, is democracy.

  • Tallest Shiva Statue unveiled in Bhaktapur


    tallest-shiva-statue-unvieled_1 The tallest Shiva statue in the world, constructed on the financial support of Kamal Jain, is complete and is open for worshiping. The statue is constructed at Chhitpol-5, Kailaskut hill in Bhaktapur.

    During the unveiling, a helicopter of Fishtail Air was throwing flowers on the statue from above.

    The construction took 6 years and involved 100 Nepali and skilled labors from India. The construction of foundation alone took two years. To protect the statue from natural factors like sun, wind, and rain, it is coated with zinc. It is further coated with copper on top of zinc coating. According to Kamal Jain, the outer cover of the statue contain 6000 kgs of zinc and copper.

  • First Saudi Car – Ghazal 1


    They are the world’s top producers of oil. Now, they are venturing into the machines to use oil – cars. Ghazal 1 has become the first car ever built in Saudi Arabia. Saudi newspapers reported that the car was showcased on Monday, June 14, 2010 by ruler King Abdullah. The Gazal-1 first appeared as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

    The Engineers at King Saud University took two years to devlop Ghazal 1, designed to match the hot climate of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. The physical dimension of the car is 4.8 meters long with a width of about 1.9 meters.

  • Apa Sherpa in Kathmandu after 20th Everest Summit – how long can he afford to be a Nepali?


    There was a rumor going on about the Nationality of record holder mountaineer Apa Sherpa. He however, dismissed rumors that he had become a US citizen after relinquishing Nepali citizenship.

    With political turmoil and scarcity of basic necessities like electricity and water in Kathmandu, when compared to the US, it is to be seen how long Apa can afford to be a Nepali.

    Upon his arrival in Kathmandu today after achieving a record feat-his 20th ascent to Mt Everest-Apa said, “I was a Nepali citizen and will remain so. My stay in the US is temporary.”

    It is to be noted that the first Everest conqueror, Tenzing Sherpa, was a Nepali when he climbed the highest peak but wasn’t a Nepali when he died.

  • Yet another successful Everest Summit – Cyclist on the top


    It was not only the youngest, Jordan Romero, on the top and Himalayan Tiger, Apa’s 20th summit, there is yet another climber to remember who scaled the top of the world. The world traveler on bicycle, Puskar Shah, hoisted the flags of 192 countries he visited on May 17, 2010.

    It was not only the flags he carried to the top of the world but also the front wheel of his bicycle. He also sang a popular Nepali song “Resham Firiri” and remembered his mother during his 45 minutes stay at the peak of the 8,848m mountain.

    Puskar said, “When I embarked on the world tour in 1998, I had a goal of hoisting the flags of all the nations for peace.”

    The 42-year-old, Shah said he has accomplished his mission and he is very happy that his world tour for peace has been a success.
