A US federal judge has ordered Iran to pay $2.65bn (£1.3bn) to the families of 241 marines killed in a 1983 bombing of their Beirut barracks. (BBCnews)
But will Iran pay it? Iran denied any involvement in the bombing and didn’t respond the the lawsuit. It is told that the ruling however opens door for nearly 1,000 family members and survivors to try to claim Iranian assets from around the world.
The Beiruit attack in October 23, 1983 during Lebanese Civil War led to the withdrawal of the international peace keeping force from Lebanon stationed since Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
I have no idea what this “largest such judgment by a US court against another country” implies in the global landscape. Can anybody explain it?
